USE IT OR LOSE IT

Volunteer. Just what is a volunteer? Why do people volunteer?

If you have never volunteered for anything, you have missed one of the most rewarding activities a human being can be involved in.

You might think that people who volunteer don’t have much to do in their life. Well, that isn’t usually the way. Volunteers make time to do something – it is a heart thing. Beliefs, priorities, concerns drive them to become involved in striving to improve life for someone else.

I don’t take credit for this quote, but it speaks volumes about those who volunteer. “Volunteers aren’t paid because they are worthless. It is because they are priceless.”

You’ve had conversations about some of the world’s problems and it goes something like this, “They should really do something about it. What are they waiting on? Somebody should get this off the ground and fix this.”

They, somebody…aren’t you somebody? Couldn’t you get off the couch and step up to do something? If you have ever been the recipient of a hand up, assistance when you were at the end of your rope, or a free cup of coffee because the guy ahead of you in the drive through paid for yours, then you have received a free gift from someone who wasn’t paid to give the gift.

If you have never volunteered, decide to do so today. What concern is closest to your heart? Hunger, the homeless, school programs, youth crime – find a way to get in there and make sure THEY do something about it.
